Governor Pritzker has issued a “Stay at Home” order, by closing most businesses from March 21st through April 7th. During this time healthcare facilities will remain open which includes facilities for animals. For your safety and in keeping with Social Distancing practices, we ask that you respect these requests:
Only one (1) person with one (1) pet will be allowed in the hospital. If you come a little early, please stay in the car until your appointment time.
If you need medications or pet food please call ahead to order and schedule a time for pickup. No walk-ins are allowed during this shelter-in-place time.
If you should feel ill in any way, or be uncomfortable in coming to our office, please call to let us know if you need to cancel or reschedule. No fees for canceling during this time.
Our appointments are now spaced further apart - two per hour.

Dr. John Brancel has been providing medical care to animals for over 30 years. Prior to opening Prairie State Animal Hospital in Oak Park, Dr. Brancel founded and operated Midtown Veterinary, a practice providing animal house calls and supplying relief coverage for other veterinary clinics. His first posting, as the Chief Veterinarian at the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago, came in 1982, after he was awarded his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Brancel’s chosen specialties include canine and feline medicine and surgery. He volunteers at The Animal Care League and holds membership in the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.
